Systems Engineer - (Crete, IL)

To apply sound engineering principles and develop technical solutions supporting the strategic growth of Holland?s railway measurement business. To work with engineering and operations personnel to support improvement of existing applications and advancement of new technical value for our customers.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Direct involvement in the development of new track measurement solutions and applications.
Management of existing and future system platforms (unix-based).
Expansion and maintenance of infrastructure and system management tools.
Creation of system security protocols, policies and processes.
Development of application deployment/update mechanisms.
Delivery of platform-specific input during conceptualization stage of new system development
Working in close liaison with electrical, computer, software solution engineers and technical partners or suppliers to advance technology solutions.
Creation and maintenance of technical documentation
General system administration for local and remote systems
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to travel up to 30% of the time to customer offices, railroad track testing sites, and on TrackSTAR? testing vehicles.
Ability to obtain railroad required security clearance and maintain railroad on-track safety training.
Ability to walk on rough ground/railroad track, climb vehicle ladders, inclines, and work on vehicle systems in the field or shop
Ability to handle typical weather extremes when working in the field
Willingness to wear PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toed boots) as required.
Bachelors Degree in Computer Engineering or like field
In-depth understanding of Unix systems and their inner workings (preference for experience with Debian and Embedded Unix )
Competency in writing bash scripts and utilizing built in Linux automation/update features (crontab, rsynch, apt-get etc.)
Experience selecting, configuring and customizing infrastructure management tools (Nagios, Smokeping etc.)
Familiarity supporting/administrating websites (previous experience developing in PHP on a LAMP stack is a plus)
Proficiency in operating as a unix system administrator managing more than 100+ active systems.
Up to date with the new advancements, technologies and trends within the industry.
Advanced problem solving and debugging skills.
Analytic mindset and the ability to think critically.
Well organized, self-motivated and highly innovative nature
Must be able to pass all pre-employment testing including a drug screen and criminal background check

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
